Introduction to performance appraisal
systems Recent years has seen the evolvement of performance appraisal
systems and HR Development processes. While the traditional name is still
in use, some organisations are seeing negative connotations with the term. Schemes
such as Severn Trent Water's performance review and development process (that
we were instrument in implementing) are now emerging. The change in name away
from performance appraisal reflects a movement towards a completely different
process designed to realise corporate potential by linking strategic objectives,
to individual ability and capability development. We
have been at the forefront of developing new performance review
and development systems, and providing HRD support services,
working as both consultants and trainers for large and small organisations across
most market sectors. Potential customers have often asked us for standard
literature on performance review and development, or appraisal systems that describes
our approach and services. However, we have declined to respond to these requests
because we don't have a pre-packaged "standard approach" to performance improvement,
that fits all requirements. Instead we apply our expertise to each client's situation
and work with them to develop and implement performance management solutions appropriate
to their needs. Though we recommend performance
review processes we have retained the traditional appraisal name as many Internet
browsers still use this term when using search engines. Whilst we would
be delighted to assist you in tuning an existing appraisal system or implementing
a new one, as HR Development specialists we can (and we prefer to) go beyond traditional
appraisal systems by linking them to HR development systems, that includes personal
development portfolios and competence definitions and both competence
and capability assessment. Our performance appraisal services can be supported by online HRD management and elearning click here for a FREE trial license. For a system description see www.hrdonline.co.uk |
